The Emerging Leaders Tax Discussion Session provides a forum for the next generation of industry leaders to further engage with The Tax Institute member network and develop technical and professional skills.

Session Topic: Structuring for Property Development

Given the ever-evolving property environment, this practical case study based session will consider structuring property ownership arrangements including exploring:

  • Ideal ownership structures for acquisition and development, including development for sale versus development for rent and revenue/capital account considerations.
  • Use of rollovers to convert long term passively held property into a structure appropriate for development.
  • Use of bare trusts to avoid double duty on subdivision arrangements.
  • Issues for SMSFs in developing property.

Amanda Donald, FTI, Keays & Associates
Amanda is a Manager at Keays & Associates Chartered Accountants in Mount Hawthorn. Amanda is a Chartered Accountant with over 12 years’ experience in an array of accounting roles and industries. In her current role, Amanda specialises in taxation compliance and providing advice for SMEs, in particular on Division 7A, capital gains tax, self-managed superannuation fund compliance and financial process development. Amanda is the vice-chair of The Tax Institute’s WA Professional Development Committee and a member of The Tax Institute’s WA Emerging Leaders Committee.

Billy-Jo Famlonga, FTI, Famlonga Business Services
Billy-Jo is the founder and Principal of Famlonga Business Services located in Malaga. With over 13 years’ experience advising Australian businesses, her practice focuses on taxation compliance, business restructuring, tax planning, business succession and providing a comprehensive suite of services to the SME market. Billy advises clients across a diverse range of industries, including primary production, beauty, crypto currency, transport and the NDIS sector.

Billy holds a Graduate Diploma of Applied Tax Law and is a Fellow Member of the Tax Institute and the Institute of Public Accountants. Billy has been a member for over 7 years and sits on The Tax Institute’s WA Professional Development Committee, Women in Tax Committee and Emerging Leaders Committee.
