In times of relatively low asset yields, companies are faced with increasingly more difficult decisions regarding how best to deploy surplus capital. Whilst a decision to hold surplus capital on the balance sheet in cash form may be prudent in many cases, this also acts to decrease earnings per share. In such an environment the most prudent application of surplus capital may be to return it to shareholders.
This workshop looks at the options available for returning capital to shareholders including:
Share Buy Backs
Capital Reductions
The session will also review the potential application of anti avoidance measures along with the ATO’s approach to evaluating different forms of capital management which will include a brief review of when to seek an ATO ruling and the appropriate ruling product to seek.
