Health professionals, including doctors (GPs and specialists), dentists, optometrists, physiotherapists and other allied health professionals, have a capacity to earn substantial amounts of income from the provision of their professional services. Some health professionals offer their services in their capacity as sole traders while others provide their services through entities including companies and trusts. This topic will cover:

  • The tax issues that need to be considered when a health professional provides their professional services through an entity either on their own or as part of a larger health professional group
  • The personal services income (PSI) issues associated with a health professional providing their services to the public including the operation of the results test
  • The tax issues associated with being engaged under a services and facilities arrangement (SFA) and engaging a health practitioner under an SFA where the health professional pays a portion of their gross professional fees to the medical centre.

Presented by Julie Smith, CTA, Grant Thornton and Tom Walrut, FTI, Merthyr Law
